Hubert Conley announced he will seek the Republican Nomination for Bradley County Register of Deeds in May of 2010. “I will use my leadership and management experience to move our county in the right direction.” Conley stated. Opportunity is knocking and we must be able to answer. New business means new property owners. Technology upgrades and the ability to serve our growing community with efficiency and fiscal responsibility will be key. It is not just about change, but about the right change.”
Conley, a Bradley County native, understands the importance of land ownership. “I grew up on a dairy farm. My father and mother taught me the importance of hard work and being a good steward of the land. Very few people will own anything more valuable than their home and property. Register of Deeds is an important position and I will take the responsibility very seriously.”
Conley has held leadership positions since High School. A graduate of Bradley Central in 1989, he served as his Class President. In college, he was active in many organizations while majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Accounting. After obtaining his degree in 1994 at Tennessee Technological University, Conley worked for the Chattanooga Lookouts and was quickly promoted to Director of Group Sales. “I really enjoyed working with people”, says Conley about the experience. “Customer service is the most important aspect of any business.” In 1999 he joined the Southeastern Farmers Co-op and managed the Lafayette, Georgia location. In his first year as Manager, sales rose over $100,000. His initial success landed him another job within the organization. “I was excited to take on a new challenge,” Conley recalls. “When I arrived in the Pikeville, Tennessee location I learned the bad news- the store had lost over $800,000 dollars in the previous year. It was not quite the promotion I had hoped for.” By the end of the following fiscal year, Conley had led the operation back into positive territory. “It was a challenge, but our team stuck together and made it happen. We treated the company’s money as if it was our own. We did not waste a penny. I want to bring that same conservative approach to our local government.” Now working at the Cleveland Co-op, Conley oversees the Chemical and Fertilizer Division. When asked about his work accomplishments, Conley simply states the most important life lessons he has learned have come from the “free labor on the family dairy farm.”
Community organizations are also important to Conley. He and his family attend First United Methodist Church where he serves on the Staff Parish Committee. He is a member of the Cleveland Family YMCA, a Director of the Flint Springs Ruritan Club, and a member of the Pachyderm and the Young Republican clubs. Between the years 2006 and 2008, Conley served as Secretary of the Bradley County Republican Party.
Conley’s family has played a major role in his decision to run. His wife, Leslie Robertson Conley, a Register Nurse at Erlanger Hospital, and two children Summer (8), a student at Hopewell Elementary, and Trevor (4), as well as father, Hubert Conley Sr. and mother, Beverly Beaty Conley have all been supportive. “Hubert is a wonderful husband, father, and man. He will lead with integrity and character. We are all very proud of him,” says Leslie.
Conley says he is running for Register of Deeds because he values “land ownership and responsible government.” “I have real ideas to better our community” remarks Conley. “Our government should serve the people. Any government office, in my opinion should value our citizen’s time and money by being as efficient and accurate as possible. Sometimes, we need leaders who have real world experience, not just government experience. I have proven myself in the real world and I am ready to lead our county, and the Register of Deeds office forward.”
